Welcome to my Author Blog!

Hello Everyone and thanks so very much for visiting my new website! After so many years of handling publicity for many hundreds of clients and projects, it’s been a real blast for me to finally take the time out to write my own stories!  My three books were written during the course of the past three years, and each one reveals a different side of who I am, what I do, and what I’m about!

My most recent book, FLIRTING WITH FAME, came about early in 2021, when I suddenly realized that it was almost 50 years since I’d first started working with celebrities – handling lighting and stage crew for Richie Havens at The Sunshine Inn in Asbury Park, NJ, back in 1972 was my very first such “close encounter.” As I approached my 65th birthday in June 2021, it occurred to me that 50 years had gone by since that time, and I simply sat at my computer and began detailing – in chronological order – the various celebrity interactions I’d had, starting with The Sunshine Inn, then moving into college and Columbia Pictures in New York, then into my earlies days in LA, and more recently, during my years as an established entertainment industry publicist at a number of companies and PR agencies.

I’m VERY EXCITED TO ANNOUNCE that FLIRTING WITH FAME will be published during May 2022 by Bear Manor Media Publishing Company! I can’t wait to share the book with my family and friends!! This coming event will mark a true goal in my life – becoming a published author.

I wrote my book AFTER THEY CAME during 2017, shortly after the death of my father, Jack. He was, for nearly 50 years, an electronics-engineer for the U.S. Department of the Army, and invented missiles, radar and drones so America could spy on its enemies. As he always said of his job, “I helped America win the Cold War.” After he passed, I wondered IF, by any chance, he happened to know anything at all about Aliens and UFOs, given that he’s spent his entire career inventing “things that fly.” I’ll never know, but I like to imagine that, perhaps, he DID know!

My book CARROTS was originally a screenplay that I wrote back in 1980 – I could never get it quite right, and after many decades, I realized it would be best chronicled as a book. CARROTS details the history of my life chasing after, but rarely “getting,” the girls and women I’d desired during each era of my life. Many of the stories remain painful to me to this day, but many are also funny, and I truly believe that there are very few other men, out there in the world, who have experienced as many “bizarre” and “hard to explain” moments when dealing with the opposite sex, than I have.

On the PR SIDE Of my life, I recently celebrated the 25th Anniversary of the Launch of my “Asbury PR Agency” on October 1, 2021. I took some of my original employees out to a special dinner at the famed Musso & Frank Grill in Hollywood – an iconic restaurant I am proud to say that I represent for public relations. During the past 25 year, my agency handled many hundreds of clients and projects for PR, Marketing and Promotion, and I can honestly say I’m shocked and delighted that my agency has survived for such a remarkable period of time!

In closing, I’d like to give a special thank you shout-out to a number of people who have helped me on my new path as an author. I’d like to thank my agent Fran Romero for her encouragement, enthusiasm and expertise in the book industry. I’d like to thank my longtime friend Ray Richmond for suggesting Bear Manor Media to me as a publisher for FLIRTING WITH FAME. I’d like to thank my colleague Curt Doty for his time and artistry in helping me to craft my three book covers, as well as to design this entire DanHararyAuthor.com website! Of course, I’d also like thank my mother for her encouragement – my becoming an author helped her fulfill a dream she’s had for me for a very long time.

And last, but certainly not least, I’d like to thank my beautiful daughter, Anjuli, for her love and unwavering support. She is the joy of my life and the greatest gift I’ve ever received. To quote Debby Boone, “She Lights Up My Life!”
